URGENT iPad update 1.0.2 has broken the app

My .2 cents.... App store should be provisioned so that older version is presented to < IOS 6.

I too have an iPad 1, and a 4S both running IOS 5 (iPad because I have to, 4s because I'm Jailbroken...) Fortunately the old version was on my laptop, but still.......


It's not just OpenVPN, a lot of developers never test with older devices. As iOS matures, and older devices are locked out of upgrades, vendors will have to determine if they want to support older devices. However, there is a lot of life left in 3 year old devices that cannot be upgraded (iPad 1, iPod Touch 1 & 2, etc)

Repeating my question to the Open VPN support team: I would like a refund for this week and until the method of reinstalling the old version is provided. Your version- restricted update is still not in iTunes and you stated that a solution to provide older version for pre-ios6 users could only follow that at a later date. So sounds like I will be without a working app for some time..... Please advise.

We use OpenVPN from IRAN on iOS Apple devices.
Version 1.00 worked perfectly with the protocol TCP and UDP on all iphone / ipad, except iphone 5S ....
You made an update for the iPhone 5S (64bits ) which also allowed to use OpenVPN on iPhone 5S (64 bits).
Last Saturday , the Iranian government has blocking UDP ports and make some changes on ports to prevent Internet VPN to function. Since that day OpenVPN 1.02 does not work on any iOS device ( seen in Log : KEV_NEGOTIATE_ERROR ) .
Today I was able to reinstall the 1.00 version of OpenVPN on a iphone 4S ( 32bit ) and another on a iphone 5C ( 32-bit) , and OpenVPN work perfectly!!!
But if i install OpenVpn 1.02 on the same devices, OpenVPN does not work (KEV_NEGOTIATE_ERROR)...
So this shows that the OpenVPN code 1.02 has undergone unnecessary changes that prevent it from connecting to the VPN in Iran ...
Could you please correct and explain why OpenVPN 1.00 TCP works in Iran , while OpenVPN 1.02 does not work at all? ?
I am at your disposal to send you the logs if necessary ...

you just need to find the old version of OpenVPN (OpenVPN 1.0.ipa) and then add the file to your iTunes library, then sync your device with iTunes.
I have this version of OpenVPN (OpenVPN 1.0.ipa), if you want to have it, send me your email and I will send you...

You should contact your OpenVPN service provider directly. This forum is only for support of the free OpenVPN Connect app.

Just wanted to report that today I was able to install 1.0.1 back on my IOS5.1.1 and it is working great again. Thank you for your support!!

It appears that the iOS 5.1.1 installer will crash if exposed to apps that contain 64 bit code. We have filed a bug report with Apple about this. Until Apple resolves this, we will be raising the minimum iOS version to 6.1 for the app.

Currently we are using Xcode 5.0.2 to build version 1.0.2 of the OpenVPN Connect app, and this version of Xcode builds a "universal binary" containing both 32 and 64-bit versions of the app, so that it's compatible with all of Apple's devices. This version of Xcode is able to build universal apps that target iOS 5.1.1 and higher. But apparently there is a bug in iOS 5.1.1 that causes it to crash when exposed to the universal build containing 64-bit code.

Unfortunately, there's not much we can do at this point to work around the issue, because we have to build a universal binary to support the iPhone 5s and IPad Air. So unless Apple figures out a way that iOS 5.1.1 can accommodate universal binaries that contain VPN plugins, we won't be able to support 5.1.1.

since IOS5.1.1 is jailbreakable anyway, we can always install an IPA if you provide it.
I would not mind to install an IPA not signed by apple, if you do not want to maintain two apps on appstore.

From our testing, the Apple vpn plugin outside of the store will not work for devices not on our in-house tester list. If we send you an IPA the plugin will not work without the correct entitlement.

I have the problem 'Parastoo' mentioned. I made up a server which works just outside of Iran. People in Iran however are failing to connect due to "Kev_Negotiate_Error" using VPN over TLS.

I'm on TCP port 443 since the governemnt tends to block encrypted non-SSL packets.

Some tags: Tun device, AES-CBC encryption, iOS 8, iPhone 5s, openvpn app 1.05.
