GPL license in Windows, etc...

Post by rtswguru » Tue Oct 04, 2011 1:19 am

Hello,

I am looking at using the TAP-32/TAP-64 Driver in a Windows Client, and distributing this to a 3rd Party -- potential usage in a commercial product in the future. The Driver appears to only be licensed by the GPLv2 license with no exception which would allow for installing and using in a Windows OS, without causing a conflict between the GPL and the Microsoft Proprietary Licensing for the Windows OS and Microsoft Driver Environments. Microsoft's licenses have not provided for such an exception, and have terms as to not using with "Excluded License Types" that have derivative works terms. Has there been a consideration of adding an Exception to the License to allow for this Coupling and production of a Derivative Work -- as to avoid this legal hurdle? Anyyone else have a similar situation... I did not see any related questions in a Search of the Forums, thus, why I posted (seems like something that would have been discussed before).
