I have 8 users in a branch office that is connected to the main office via OpenVPN. Half of the branch office users are on XP and half are moved to Windows 7. XP users can view mapped drives, Outlook, and other resources at the main office with 0 issues. Windows 7 users can use everything without error except drive mappings. Intermittently their mapped drives will fail to connect, giving them two warnings:
Error A:
An error occurred while connecting to P: to
\\servername\shares
Microsoft Windows Network: The local device name is already in use.
Error B:
Simply says access is denied.
These errors come together and strike right when I double click on "My Computer" and try to open the mapped drive. After that, the drives seem to refresh and they are accessible once again. Hitting F5 to refresh the connection takes care of this issue.
Things I have tried to aleviate the problem:
1. Disabled UAC (for testing)
2. Command: net config server /autodisconnect:-1
3. Group Policy Edit: Set Amount of idle time required before suspending session: 0 (disabled).
4. Disabled Offline Files and Folders
5. Set drive mappings to persistent
6. Disabling IPv6 on their network adapters
7. Making sure the Power Management settings on the Network Adapters is set so they do not go into idle mode when working
I have tried a number of other things. I'll update them when as they come. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
