v2.7.1 packet HMAC authentication failed

Server version: 2.5.5l602. Can't connect with OpenVPN Connect v2.7.1: server log shows "packet HMAC authentication failed". But using same ovpn file with v3.4.2 successfully connects. Is it even possible to connect to 2.5.5 server with OpenVPN Connect v2?
