Hi there.
Decided to sign up and post about this incase it happens again.
I use OpenVPN Server installed to a Raspberry Pi, it sits there and acts as my gateway into my home network when I am out and about, its a brilliant way to get hold of my Fileserver, I love it.
It has worked nearly everywhere I have been, it always works on Mobile Data networks but I was at a friends house over the weekend and although the iOS app connected to the VPN without issue and indeed routed internet traffic out through my homes internet I was unable to access any local devices. At the time I thought the worst and figured it must not be working however I switched back to Mobile Data and it worked fine then at my Mother In Law's on the way home I tested it there and it worked fine on their internet.
Open VPN was successfully connecting at this guys house and I was getting my Private IP successfully 10.50.xx.xx but I was unable to reach any of my devices on my home subnet 192.168.0.x, it was not possible to even ping the devices let alone connect to RDP or FTP,
However this has always worked no matter where I am, airports, other houses, mobile data etc etc, I didnt have time to investigate but actually just assumed the server was broken but I would like to know what I should check next time if I find myself in the same situation. The hardware at the house was Truspeed with ubiquiti wifi access points, the latter I was connected to. It wouldn't just be that port 21 was blocked or whatever because ping failed also, also VPN wasn't blocked specifically because the VPN Client app connected fine to my server, also I could tell internet browsing and the apps I tested on my phone were indeed going out over the VPN, it was just anything that was on my local network at home was unreachable (192.168.0.x)
Does anyone have any ideas what that could be?
Thank you.
Unable to reach LAN from a friends house using OpenVPN

Re: Unable to reach LAN from a friends house using OpenVPN
Think I have come to the conclusion on my own.....my friends house uses the same subnet as my home LAN, so when I was at his house trying to access 192.168.0.x addresses my phone/laptop was looking locally and not over the VPN adapter.
Now this has me thinking about changing my subnet at home, man thats going to be some task!
