Properly configuring OpenVPN on ASUS router & Mac
I am totally new to Open VPN so please bear with me while I sort things out. I want to ensure I did the correct steps to configure my ASUS GT-AX11000 router to use Open VPN with my QNAP NAS with Mac OS X. First, I created a DDNS service, then turned on the VPN server and exported the file from the router to my QNAP NAS. I made the VPN connection the default gateway connection under QVPN on the NAS under connection profiles. The indicator light is green, which I think is good, then downloaded the Open VPN app for mac added the profile, and logged in. The app connects to the server, gives me a private IP, and shows the public server IP. How do I check if Open VPN is working? I tried to check my IP after connecting and it shows my public IP. I can connect to the NAS via AFP with no issues, when I use the DDNS service plus the secure port, I get an alert saying that the connection is not secure but I am able to connect to the NAS user interface. I haven't turned off Port Forwarding because if I do I can't connect to the NAS because it needs port 1194 and the HTTP and HTTPS ports too. How do I know if Open VPN is working on the NAS? Why do I get an alert that the website is not secure? Can I make it a secure connection using an SSL certificate like myqnapcloud.com had? Did I miss anything? I am running Mac OS X Ventura on a Macbook Pro and using a QNAP NAS TS473A, on an ASUS GT-AX11000 router. Thanks so much for any help you can provide me with.
