DNS Whitelist not working [NordVPN]

I am trying to bypass bank of america by adding the following to the config file

route bankofamerica.com 255.255.255.255 net_gateway
redirect-gateway def1

But, it doesn't work. BOA website won't open because the server I'm using doesn't work with it, which I why I want to bypass it.
Is there anything else I need to do besides the above config?

I've tried disconnecting completely closing everything and reconnecting... still nothing.

Add the route before you connect to the VPN, if you can..

I mean, I added the route before I connected, hit save and then reconnected. Is that what you meant?

Just so that you understand, using DNS names to configure your routing is a big-bad no-no.

You are relying on your DNS provider to be honest, which is a bit like voting for Hilary Clinton.

What you must do is to disconnect from the VPN when you do not trust the VPN.

I'm using nordvpn and because I play online games, I like to connect to a specific server. But, that server does not work with Bank of America. So, instead of changing servers, I saw a tutorial on how to bypass specific websites so it doesn't use the vpn.

So, are you saying this is no possible to do and the only option is to either change servers or disconnect from the vpn every time I need to access the bank?

oh ok. I apologize for my lack of knowledge. I just recently started using a vpn, so I know very little about vpn's.
I can tell you're frustrated having to deal with a simpleton .

I was just a little confused when you said this...

Because I DO trust my vpn (nordvpn), so that's why don't want to disconnect from it. I thought there was a way to bypass the vpn and connect to my bank without having to disconnect from the "trusted" vpn.

My dns provider is OpenDns, which I also trust.

This has nothing to do with a lack of knowledge.

The reason that you should not use a VPN for your personal banking is because your personal banking
should be good enough to function without the need for a VPN.

If you trust some utter piece of shit from the random internet to teach you how to do internet banking
then you are utterly screwed.

If that is not enough of a warning for you then you are beyond help.

If NordVPN are recommending that their user route Internet Banking outside of NordVPN

• I MUST remind people that NordVPN are the only VPN Provider who were stupid enough
  to not check their own servers against telnet attack.

I do not trust any VPN provider with my personal banking ,

because it is not my VPN provider's job to provide secure internet banking.

If I did not trust my Bank to do Internet Banking then I would not do Internet Banking with my Bank.

Probably a very stupid question...but, if I don't use a vpn for banking, doesn't that mean I will be using my ISP's connection?
I mean, is trusting my ISP with my internet a better choice?
