vpngate.com - Traffic does not go through OpenVPN app

So I installed OpenVPN on both my iOS/Android device.

1. On both device if I go to google.com, I get the country Google homepage (example: google.com.hk instead of google.com)
2. If I use the Line chat app on my iPhone 6s+, I can see HK specific content.
3. If I use the Line chat app on my LG G3, I cannot see HK specific content. It shows my home country content.

I used the same .opvn (using TCP 443 instead of the UDP option) on both devices which I got from vpngate.com. Any ideas what could be happening?
