Connection problem - timing out

A friend of mine suggested that I buy a Raspberry Pi and set up a VPN. He told me it should take a couple of hours......40+hours later and I am nearly there! I am a novice at coding so please make any replies simple! Here is the error script from my iPad.

I am having the same problem on my iPhone using a config from the PIA service. Is there a setting to keep it active ?
