Hi, it's really silent regarding problems with IOS 9.0.1 but is there any bugfix to get IPv4 tunnel working again ?

Unfortunately there I cannot downgrade to 8.4.1

Tried to connect to our latest Debian OVPN install which worked until upgrade and is still working with all other clients.

I have the same issue with my iPhone 6s Plus. I can connect to my openvpn access server (latest release on Debian) but the connection doesn't work - can't ping or Internet, etc. My iPad Air 2, nexus 6, and pfsense instance all connect fine and work - just 6s plus having issues.

Sorry for so many posts. I resolved my problem although it is interesting this only occurs on my iPhone 6s Plus... My access server was configured to use the same dns as the server for the connecting clients. Since my server is dual stack v4/v6 it was pushing v6 dns to the connecting client first. My VPN isn't providing IPv6 connectivity so I changed the option to manually specify v4 servers and everything is working perfectly for me on all clients. Sorry for the confusion.

thanks for reply. Unfortunately no luck here. Well, we are running dual stack, but if I disable IPv6 on our Debian server, still got no working ipv4 tunnel. It's independent from the iPhone/iPad model.

I was terrified to discover today that although the OpenVPN client seems to be working normally after upgrading from iOS8 to iOS9 that although everything seems to be working fine; the client connects, get a proper IP address, the [VPN] symbol lights up at the top of the screen however traffic is not being routed through the VPN tunnel although that's the impression you get.

This is a serious issue for everybody who rely on secure communication!!!

By being lead to believe that everything is working fine while in fact traffic is being sent via the standard non-encrypted IP address.

I'm using an iPad Mini 2 with iOS 9.0.1 and the latest version of the OpenVPN client. Guys! Please look into this. People may be at risk!!

Thanks for that feedback, finally someone who confirms that there is something going wrong.

Since IOS 9.x my i-devices are unable to access our intranet servers (thats I have OVPN for...).

All internet-traffic is routed here through the tunnel , so easily I can check on "www.whatismyip.com" or other sites if VPN is working or not.

Since IOS 9.x IPv4 tunnel is established but unused.

Urgent fix required. Thanks a lot

My public IP changes properly, DNS leak tests confirm the proper DNS, and I am able to reach my local network hosts via 1918 IPs. I don't think I have the same issue.

Dual Stack here ( v4 / v6) ..

I removed the v6 stack from our Debian Server for testing purposes .
IPv4 tunnel is working with IOS 9.0.2.

So dual stack is broken.

Is there any way to tell OpenVPN to just use IP4 stack and prohibit IP6 stack?

I am seeing the same issue as noted above by rocketsmurf...the VPN app says connected, the VPN symbol is showing, I can access the internet, but not any of the local LAN of the VPN server or the VPN server itself. I hadn't realised that actually I can only access the internet from the client because it's using the regular connection and not the VPN!

So is this a fault with iOS9, or something wrong/needed updated with the OpenVPN app for iOS?

I am now getting some weird results with iOS.

I have an iPad Air 2, running iOS 9.1, and OpenVPN Connect works fine on this, tunnelling OK, traffic going through the tunnel.

I also have an iPhone 5S, running iOS 9.1. When I connect to the wifi in my office at work, then fire up OpenVPN, the tunnel works OK. If I then switch off the wifi, and the 4G network kicks in, OpenVPN re-establishes the tunnel over 4G, and it still works OK...tunnelling as normal, all traffic going through the tunnel.

However, on the iPhone, if I start OpenVPN when only on a 4G signal, the tunnel is not working and the traffic leaks out to 4G.

flash_uk, I am having the same problem on iOS. I'm not using IPv6 though so it's not this problem. It acts very odd on 3G/4G (http ok to LAN, certain apps like for SSH ok, but Microsoft RDP app doesn't work, can't ping anything either). On wifi it's fine.

I'm going to start a new thread on it with more details. Can you add to it please?

I assume I am ok to start a bug on this too?

and yet a further update - on the iPhone 5S, if I disable seamless tunnel, the tunnel connects and works fine on 4G with no leakage around it.

I have been having the same issues - been working on the problem for days! Solved by disabling seamless tunnel. Thanks for the help flash_uk

I presume this is a bug... Does anyone have any idea if this is being addressed?

Client: iPad Air w/ IOS 9.2.1 / OpenVPN Connect
Server: Synology NAS OpenVPN (DSM 5.2-5644 Update 3)

IPV6 Server Mode disabled on NAS
Seamless Tunnel disabled on client

I am having the same issue. When I have Wifi disabled on my iPad Air, going to a what's my IP type site in Safari shows the LTE network's IP address. When I enable Wifi on my iPad, my IP address is the external IP for the network that the NAS is on.

So ...
iPad cellular only (AT&T LTE), VPN displays as enabled but traffic is NOT redirected through the tunnel
iPad cellular + wifi, traffic IS redirected successfully

Is there a known fix or bug on this issue?
