OpenVPN on Nabi 2 tablet

Can anyone tell me how to set up openvpn to always run on the Nabi 2 tablet? I can start the app from Parent mode but when I go back to Nabi mode the openvpn client stops running.

Nabi tech support informed me that it's not possible to use openvpn in the way I want to use it. Limitations of a "child-proof" tablet. OpenVPN doesn't work the way I want it to on my Android phone either - instead of auto-connecting when I turn the phone on, it asks me for permission to connect. Doesn't look like there's a work-around for that either.
