openvpn: connected and now what?

I installed openvpn connect on my oneplus one android phone. I then imported a specially created profile and connected.
The app says I'm connected and also displays the correct IP (10.8.0.9) that I instructed my server to assign to this profile.
But now what? It seems I cannot reach any other host on my VPN. I tried using connectbot to ssh to another host on my vpn, but all I get is no route to host
It says it works but it doesnt!
