Security Issue with OpenVPN

Post by werowe » Mon Jul 21, 2014 3:34 pm

I understand that in order to avoid the error message below, you have to run the OpenVPN client as administrator on Windows 8.1 But I work in the retail side of this and users to not know about that.

When they get this error they will not know it. So the routing tables will not be updated. OpenVPN will say the user is connected when they really are not. They will get a new IP address, but their real IP address will be used when they surf the internet instead of their VPN one thus giving up their privacy:

Sat Jul 19 15:53:34 2014 NOTE: FlushIpNetTable failed on interface [19] {35A9E31A-2AB8-4EA0-81A3-224F7936392D} (status=5) : Access is denied. Sat Jul 19 15:48:55 2014 ERROR: Windows route add command failed [adaptive]: returned error code 1

Sat Jul 19 15:48:55 2014 C:\WINDOWS\system32\route.exe ADD 192.168.1.1 MASK 255.255.255.255 192.168.1.1 IF 13

I suggest the the client be updated to reflect this situation.

Hey, could you make your post subjects more vague? We can still guess that it might have to with anything regarding OpenVPN and security.
