iOS 8 support

Post by beedee » Wed Jul 16, 2014 4:45 pm

I can't connect to any of my openvpn servers upon installing iOS 8 beta3. I even cleared all my entries and tried to add them again using iTunes however it won't import them. the app in iOS 8 doesn't seem to know the files are there to import. is iOS 8 support currently in the works?

I am experiencing this as well. Anyone know of a workaround?

Thanks

Same.

I am unable to cause OpenVPN Connect to start the "import" procedure. I've offered it the config file via:

DropBox
eMail
iTunes File Sync

What I DO see (via iTunes File Sync) is an Inbox folder with a growing number of .ovpn files in it, but OpenVPN Connect never gives me the "import" path that allows me to activate a config.

OpenVPN Connect Version: Whatever is on iTunes right now
iOS Version: iOS 8b4

I'm also out of luck. App is convinced there's not a .ovpn file there but iTunes says there is. Doesn't matter whether I import from iTunes or email.

I did notice in iTunes there's an "inbox" folder in the iphone file system for OpenVPN but I don't seem to be able to get the .ovpn file to go into the inbox. Perhaps that's the issue.

Anyone have any luck yet?

It has been a whole month without an official response? Is this normal? Still no luck here although, the configs that I hadn't deleted trying to make it work, now do work in beta 5 but I still can't import new profiles :(

I am unable to import configs for this as well. Would love some support.

We are aware of the import profile issue on iOS 8 and will be releasing an update in mid-September.

Thanks,
James

Thanks for the response. Is there any kind of workaround for us in the meantime?

+1 on this, for a workaround. I deleted my profile in order to re-import , only to be stuck. existing profiles connect and work ok though. This issue still seems to be valid as of IOS 8 beta 5, which is expected to be the final beta. Looking for either a workaround ( no matter how complex), or an update soon.

Can also confirm, that on the GM seed, this issue still exists. So don't hold your breath anyone. Hoping to see the upcoming OpenVPN drop soon. I've seen about 20+ updates drop in the last week alone and im hoping OVPN isn't the straggler.

Also, If anyone has a workaround - difficult or not, would appreciate any insight. My assumption with this bug is that apple re-engineers the API for passing data between apps. OVPN is likely totally clueless about said API, and can't pick up the profile.

Yep same here. Im thinking we'll have to wait for the iOS 8 public release date, when they will release an app update. :(

Great News, Update just dropped to the App store. Can confirm issue is resolved on IOS 8 GM. As a matter of fact , it picks up every failed attempt. I had 18 profiles pending :). After deleting all those, and re-adding my profile, all issue is resolved. :) .

We should consider this case closed.

I am experiencing countless disconnects on the ios 8 GM with the new open vpn app update. It works for a while, then eventually I notice the VPN symbol has disappeared and I am no longer connected.

Almost unusable in this current state unless you are really paying attention to your connection status.

Great to know I am not the only one experiencing such unstable issue!

Looks the built-in L2TP is also having such unstable issue!

I had a chance to retest latest OpenVPN Connect App version 1.0.4 with iOS 8 beta 5 and found it is quite stable!

Also, the test on my iPad 2 with 7.1.2 is working great for the new OpenVPN Connect App.

Looks like Apple has done some changes and broken the VPN functionality on latest iOS 8 GM.

Hopefully, they can make it right for the upcoming official real ease of iOS 8!

Under iOS 8 the client will disconnect every few minutes and not reconnect again.

This is with the latest client 1.0.5, which has worked fine under iOS 7.1.2

I assume it is a iOS problem. But basically it makes OpenVPN unusable under iOS8.

So be warned and upgrade only when this issue has been solved.

I am having the disconnect issue. It happens with any memory intensive application running. It seems to terminate openvpn's client immediately without any log messages. For those light weight applications, openvpn is stable with the connection. Any fix upcoming? It is not usable for any heavy weight applications, e.g. serious processing applications.
