Is push mail deliverd secure or not?

Dear,

I have read some posts about this issue, but I couldn't find an exact answer to this one.

Situation:
There is an active OVPN connection and push email is activated.
Now when my iPhone goes to sleep ... also the OVPN connection is goining into a "sleep/wait" mode.

Question:
When I receive an email I can see that OVPN is reconnecting but ... and this is the question ... was this email received via de secure tunnel or not?
This is not very clear to me.

Can somebody shed some light on this one?
