TAP Driver 9.9.2_3 Install Fail-Win 8.1 (CM_PROB_FAILED_ADD)

Trying to install TAP-Windows 9.9.2_3 on Win 8.1 64 bit and encountering a strange error. Ran the install as administrator, tried disable driver signing, tried installing the driver manually and using device manager, I'm out of ideas.

C:\windows\inf\setupapi.dev.log is indicating the following. Any ideas?

Prior to indicating this error, higher up in setupapi.dev.log, I see this. But, again, I have tried disabling driver signing and had no better luck. So I am not suspecting that this is the root cause, but I'm not expert enough to rule it out.

Installs just fine when I boot Windows 7 64 bit on the same laptop.

Anyone seen anything similar? Any ideas?

Curses! This must be a problem with my PC. Just tried to install the driver on a nearly identical laptop with very similar configuration (win 8.1, Inspiron 15R, etc.) and it worked. Will post back if I can resolve this.

This is the identical problem I am having. 2.3.2 installed fine earlier this year, but upon upgrading to 2.3.5 it developed the TAP error.

Same errors in the log as yours.

Something tells me Windows 8.1 is borked or TAP driver is. Out of all my drivers, nothing else is failing to install but this.

I ended up reinstalling Windows and was able to install the driver. Go figure!
