openvpn local socks proxy

Situation:

I'm connecting through a restricted, locked down, network with crutial local services.

I can configure outside access with openvpn. The only problem, it routs all traffic over the vpn and I lose local service connectivity.

Anyone know if its possible to configure a socks proxy that leads to the vpn connection so that idividual apps can be vpn'd via socks rather than it overtaking the entire systems networking?
