OpenVPN newbie question

Post by Parchy » Fri Nov 16, 2012 2:18 am

I have just started trying OpenVPN using the VMware appliance for windows to connect to a computer via the internet.
I have configured the VM, and forwarded the port being used for client connections to the VM on my router, and then went to a remote site to test connection.

When I enter the address into a browser, the OpenVPN page came up and had me login, after which point it downloaded the openvpn connect installer. I downloaded and ran it, but it did log me in afterwards.

When I retype the web address, the OpenVPN page comes up with options like "Connect, Admin, Logout" as well as links to several installers including OpenVPN connect, the client for windows, etc. However when I press connect, the loading animation comes up on the page and remains. It never actually connects and assigns an IP to the remote machine.

When I try this from a PC on the local network, it connects and assigns an IP shortly after.

Is there something I have not done?

Also, am I right in thinking that the OpenVPN AS appliance will require all PCs participating in the VPN to log into it and doesnt actually facilitate a remote connection of a client machine to the local network on which it is installed?

Thanks
