sending custom values from client to server

Hi,

i'm just wondering, is there any way to sent from the client to the server something like message or env variable in the script. Like pushing env. variables to the server and read that in the server.

I know that it's possible to send custom messages from the server to the clients, but, not sure of the clients->server it's possible. Basically, what i need is to always grab the mac address of eth1 from clients (linux clients) and store this in the server
