OpenVPN Not Connecting from Android Phone to Windows 10 PC via Router VPN

Post by bbdudevpn » Wed Jan 06, 2021 2:27 am

I have a Netgear Nighthawk X10 AD7200 / R9000 WiFi router. I have setup DDNS and enabled VPN Service in the Router, downloaded the OpenVPN configuration files and OpenVPN client installer for Windows 10 and OpenVPN Connect App for Android. I installed the OpenVPN Client on my Windows 10 PC and the OpenVPN Connect App on my Google Pixel 2 (Android) smart phone and imported the corresponding .ovpn files.

The OpenVPN GUI is running in the System Tray. I go right click Connect and the OpenVPN Connection (Client) window pos-up then I see lots of status indications scrolling on the window (more on that below). Then I go to my cell phone and start OpenVPN Connect and tap on Connect. The Connection never succeeds and eventually times-out after several minutes.

One of the many messages that scrolled on the PC OpenVPN Connect ststus window is as follows:
"Tue Jan 05 15:38:01 2021 WARNING: No server certificate verification method has been enabled. See http://openvpn.net/howto.html#mitm for more info"

Do I need to setup some kind of keys or use a password from my cell phone? I did not see that mentioned in the R9000 User manual?
