Actually using the tunnel

Post by zinpin » Sat Sep 05, 2020 2:11 pm

I'm sure this is a ridiculously obvious thing, but I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Pretend for a second I have set up the client (Windows; OpenVPN GUI) and server (CentOS) and they're connecting (my task for the afternoon). How do I get applications to use the VPN? I'm assuming all my network traffic just gets routed through the new "network adapter" (TAP-Windows Adapter V9)?

What if I only want certain web-browsers/applications to use the VPN; is that possible?

All the docs I've read (OpenVPN.net and https://github.com/OpenVPN/openvpn-gui) end at: "congratulations you're connected".

Thanks

(Sorry if this is the wrong board; seemed most appropriate)

Not officially in Free Open Source OpenVPN.

There maybe other apps that can do this for you but it probably depends on the device of your client.

Thanks. After spending several hours with OpenVPN, it turns out that simply installing Squid and using that as a proxy is the way to go (5 mins). Right tool for the right job. ;-)
