I have been using OpenVPN and the included GUI on Windows for quite some time but mostly as a client.
I'm trying to set up a VPN between my son's computer and my own so I've setup my computer as a server. Both machines have the 2.1.4 Windows (installer) package. I've read as much of the documentation as I can find including the man pages, but I'm still confused about the management port when running the server as a service.
If I run the server as a service, is the GUI in the 2.1.4 package the new GUI that uses the management port?
If so, do I add "management 127.0.0.1" to the server config file or do I need to pick a port? If I pick the port, where do I tell the GUI which port I've picked? Is there a default port?
Thanks for your help.
BTW, I have got the connection working without using a service, so I believe the rest of my client and server configuration files are correct.
OpenVPN GUI and the management port

Re: OpenVPN GUI and the management port
hi there,
the default port is 7505(tcp) for the managment console...
the openvpn gui has nothing to do with managment console, openvpn control does...
openvpn control is NOT included with openvpn setup program..
what exactly you want to do..?
cheers,
michael

Re: OpenVPN GUI and the management port
My goal is to run the server as a service so it is available all the time. However, I'd like to be able to check on it if necessary.
I like the visual indication of the OpenVPN GUI system tray icon although one more state might be necessary (a client is connected).
Where do I find OpenVPN control?
Regards,
Brad
