Client IP not showing up in system tray

Post by sparkix » Thu Feb 28, 2019 9:05 pm

I recently setup an OpenVPN server on my router (Shibby Tomato Firmware) which creates a TAP VPN and allows clients to connect from out on the internet using the same DHCP addresses as the LAN computers.

Everything works great and I can connect from the internet and access resources on the LAN as if I'm at home. However, the icon on the taskbar doesn't show the IP that I was assigned. It does correctly assign an IP using the DHCP server on the router, but it doesn't show up. If I go to the network adapter status (or use ipconfig) I can find it. Just wondering if there is a way to have it show up like it should.

Small thing, I know.
Thanks.

I see the same thing. Netgear router VPN, TAP-Windows Adapter V9

Doesn't seem to impact functionality in any way, but there's probably some common denominator here 😊

Sounds like you are using an old version of the GUI.

I'm using the latest version from here: https://openvpn.net/community-downloads/

However, I just tried a different connection to a commercial VPN service and am correctly seeing the IP address in the system tray on the client for that connection

The server I was using before was a Netgear router - it's offline currently so I can't check again now, but Netgear is notorious for running old code so maybe this is server related somehow. I'll report back when the Netgear comes back online.

But in short, you're right, with latest GUI and a new server there's no problem.
