e-Mails by VPN Connection don`t work

IOS 8 - iPad and iPhone
If I turn on the VPN connection - does the access to Internet without any problems.
Unfortunately, I can but with the Mailapp not send or receive emails. Here the connection is blocked.
With Safari but you can open his email mailbox - but this is very cumbersome.
If there is no solution for the built-in mail app ??

Did you got a Linux or Windows Server ? Or a Mac ?

Oh I say it: The E-Mail with the iPhone or iPad it don`t work
