Since 1.0.4 update, TCP connection will not work on iPhone4

Since my vpn, airvpn, made an update to patch heartbleed, and simultaneously updating to OpenVPN 1.0.4, I can still connect through OpenVPN and airvpn on my iPhone5 and the iPhone5S with either UDP or TCP connections. However, only UDP connections work on my iPhone4. My preferred network connection blocks UDP traffic, so I am unable to use OpenVPN on the iPhone4. I have verified many times that iPhone5 and iPhone5S work for both UDP and TCP, but that iPhone4 works only for UDP (when UDP is not blocked).
airvpn support says there was a bug similar to this in OpenVPN 1.0.2 and prior versions. It seems to have returned in 1.0.4.

Any suggestions?
