My network traffic bypasses OpenVPN connection

I have a synology diskstation with openvpn server.
The PPTP connection on my iPhone 5 (7.0.6) works flawlessly, but
when I try to connect using OpenVPN Connect app, it doen't use
the VPN link to transfer network traffic.

My phone apparently connects to the openVPN server, and it shows me
the "VPN" icon on my phone. The server vpn access-logs and netstat show me
that I am indeed connected.

However, http://www.whatismyip.org/ tells me I'm still using my 3G or
local wlan network on my phone.

Are the any client or server logs you might be interested in, which can
shed some light on this?
