OpenVPN and normal connections at the same time?

Hello

While using openVPN...
How can I use at at the same time some programs through the VPN
and other programs through the normal connection (without VPN).

For example I want Chrome to use openVPN (with a .ovpn config file) and at the same time freedownloadmanager or bittorrent connected directly to the Internet without any VPN.

I've looked at Chrome connection settings but there is no signal of the VPN connection there.
I've also looked at my computer network properties. When I'm using openVPN the TAP-Windows adapter is activated but there are no options to decide what traffic gets redirected or not.
