OpenVPN custom routes

Post by syvil » Mon Jul 29, 2013 8:45 pm

Hello,

I'm looking to swich from Kerio to OpenVPN for a small private group project I work on with friends in different parts of the globe. We currently use Kerio on a windows server and while it had served us well I'm wanting to switch to OpenVPN. I setup my server which took about 5mins and I can connect fine and it works great, but all traffic is routed through the VPN. In Kerio we can setup "Custom Routes" that means that ONLY specified IPs will be routed through the VPN while everything else is direct through your ISP.

For example FTP and WWW traffic to our projects selected IPs are routed through our current VPN. However personal FTPs someone may have, Facebook, Gmail, etc all go through their ISP and the VPN by passes this traffic. Is it possible to accomplish this same setup in OpenVPN?

I apologize if this has been asked/answered before. I do not know what term in OpenVPN is, as in Kerio its just called "Custom Routes"

You posted in the Access Server question, so I assume you are using that product. I'll suggest you read the documents on http://openvpn.net/index.php/access-server/docs.html. Its quite simple, but since you haven't read anything its as easy as going into the web ui and changing the setting "Should client Internet traffic be routed through the VPN?"

If you are using DNS behind the VPN for your remote clients then you'll have to keep tunneling the traffic over the VPN
