OpenVpn x secure connection to wifi hotspot

Hello

What we need is to secure connection from smartphone to wifi open or unknowed

so think to deploy in our datacenter a openvpn machine, so when we are out of office connect with vpn for secure all traffic

my smartphone -> public wifi -> openvpn -> traffic (facebook, email, ..)

any suggest ? there are any rules for this type of deploy ?
