Hi,
Just got the OpenVPN app to connect my iPhone to a Watchguard XTM505 firewall.
The system works great and I can finally access my mailserver on my internal LAN .
Only severe negative point is that I my battery's dead after 6 hours...
I tried to change the keepalive interval/timeout and rekey interval to now 1200 seconds / 3600 seconds / 1440 minuts, but this didn't help.
Any suggestions?
What I basically need is that my emails are synced every 15 minutes. Problem is that the iPhone sticks to an "Always on" principle for emails and that it keeps the dataconnection open.
My good old Nokia E72 was much more configurable (and the battery lasted 3 days even with the NCP VPN Client )
any suggestions to get at least through the day?
thnx!

optimal settings to save battery?

Re: optimal settings to save battery?
OpenVPN tries to save battery life by temporarily disconnecting before the device goes to sleep and reconnecting on wakeup. But OpenVPN does not, by itself, control the sleep/wakeup decision. This is done by iOS itself.
Since you want to check your email every 15 minutes, the device is having to wake up fairly frequently, and this will likely drain your battery whether or not OpenVPN is running.
