OpenVPN App on iPhone Cannot Connect to OpenVPN Server

Err: iOS doesn't support TAP-based tunnels

Any work around? App is useless if it doesn't work with another OpenVPN server.
I can't find any documentation to help with issues like this.

Is there any indication that the TAP interface will be available on iOS some time? Anything I could do to foster such development (except for maybe doing it myself, for which I lack most of the required skills)?
