the community editions of openvpn 2.2 and 2.3 are full compatible; there are some features present in 2.3 that a 2.2 client would not understand (e.g. IPv6), but a 2.2 server with 2.3 clients should work out of the box.

it should work just the same as 2.3.1 and 2.2.2 ; 2.3.2 works in my setups; can you test it by downgrading to 2.3.1 first?

no, instead of going from 2.2.2->2.3.2, upgrade to 2.3.1 (and not any further). I want to know if this change in behaviour was introduced with 2.3.1 or 2.3.2.
