Connected to VPN, but traffic not being tunneled. Windows 7

I am able to connect to an OpenVPN server, however it is not tunneling through the Virtual TAP adapter. My IP address is still showing up as the one from the current access point. I have tried turning the adapter setting to always on, but to be able to traffic information through the TAP I have to change the adapter settings to always on and then disable the adapter and re-enable it. Before a fresh install of Windows I was able to traffic information through the tunnel, but on this install I have now created a homegroup to share music to my Xbox 360. I don't know if this is the issue as I don't plan on sharing music over the VPN, but I don't want to delete my homegroup because it is a pain to create one since there are so many different homegroups on my university's network. Any help with this would be much appreciated as it seems that Windows is not being able to properly identify which network device to use traffic through even though it should properly be using both.

If you are using OpenVPN Access Server, then by default the Access Server will route all your client's internet traffic through the VPN tunnel. Except for the traffic to the OpenVPN Access Server itself, for the obvious reason that the VPN tunnel packets must be transported over the internet, and not through the VPN tunnel (that creates a loop).

Local traffic, on the local subnet that you are a part of, does not normally go through the VPN tunnel.

I'm getting internet access on the 1st network, but the 2nd (openvpn access point) tap adapter connects but I'm not getting the internet through that. I tested this by googling what's my IP. Also the openVPN GUI has successfully connected to the server because my two computer screens are green. Is there anyway that it can automatically be tunneled through the TAP adapter wihot me having to disable and reenable the tap adapter and messing with the media connection settings or my homegroup lan network settings?

Okay, then what I am trying to say is that my computer is not pushing the route through the server that's located in Europe, even though it's connected. How do I fix this?

Now I'm having another issue. I restarted my computer, and now when I try to run the OpenVPN GUI it just gives me yellow computers, and says connecting forever.
