Sticks are "Preparing to Connect"

Post by luis84 » Tue Nov 06, 2012 5:00 am

Hi everyone,

I use a license copy of OpenVPN AS. Latest version. Everytime the web portal gets to the "Preparing to connect" portion, it just hangs there. The OpenVPN Connect client gets the new user, but it hangs there and never every gets to show bandwidth usage, etc. This happens on multiple servers on multiple OS.

Is there a log to see why this occurs or a way to troubleshoot this? Thank you.

I believe this is because you are most likely using a direct IP connection. While this is fine for user-locked profiles and autologin profiles, it will not work when using the web services directly. The reason for this is because host names are required for the SSL connection to work properly. So, in case you have configured only an IP address in the "Host name or IP address" field under "Network Settings" in the admin UI of the Access Server, try instead to set up a DNS name (FQDN, like vpnserver.mycompany.com) and entering that into the "Host name or IP address" field, and then uninstalling and reinstalling the OpenVPN Connect Client so it will take this change into account.

This is usually the solution for this type of problem on Access Server. There are some isolated cases where a specific outdated version of Firefox can show this problem, but not, as you say, on multiple operating systems and browsers. This seems to be the problem I just described and gave the solution for.

Good luck.
I'm still alive, just posting under the openvpn_inc alias now as part of a larger group.
