Open Vpn and Steam

Post by Vincent Vega » Sat Nov 19, 2011 5:15 am

Ok I am using Open VPN so i can access steam
but my account keeps getting suspended

I read the thing about P2P file sharing and Torrents but i did not download any torrents or things off mediafire, megaupload etc.

I was downloading something from steam
does this count towards this because my college blocks steam and i only need it to download everything once
I was wondering if this is a violation

Your steam account or your college account is being suspended? I assume you mean the college account....

I can think of some scenarios why your college account could be disabled when you access steam via OpenVPN:

(i) The VPN provider is blacklisted by your college
(ii) The OpenVPN traffic/protocol is blacklisted by your college
(iii) You downloaded too much data
(iv) Improper implementation of OpenVPN caused you to "direct connect" to steam

Scenario (i) or (iv) would seem most likely to me but its hard to really know. Best to ask the administrator of accounts why you are being banned.
