OpenVPN and Cisco VPN terminate one anther on same net

Post by rfransix » Wed Oct 12, 2011 3:51 pm

I have been using Cisco VPN just fine for some time.

Then I installed OpenVPN on another computer and once I made the connection, my Cisco VPN terminated and it would not restart, even after reboot.

So, I turned off the OpenVPN computer, and the Cisco VPN started working again just fine.

How do I get both VPNs working together on the same network?

Richard

Cisco VPN is notorious for wanting to grab the entire network stack of a PC (for security reasons). It is possible to get the Cisco VPN client and OpenVPN to work together on a single PC but it requires heavy tweaking of the Cisco VPN client (if I recall correctly). Sure you want to go that way?

I would never put them both on the same machine...my issue is that I have two servers, one with OpenVPN v2.1.3 and another with Cisco Secure Services Client v5.1.1.10.

I connect to the cisco vpn, and then I connect to the openvpn, seconds later, my cisco vpn terminates and will not reconnect, even on reboot/shutdown. I have to terminate the OpenVPN AND shutdown that server to get cisco vpn working again.

the Cisco VPN **server** stops working if another host on the same network runs OpenVPN? wow! I'd consider that to be a big fat bug in the Cisco VPN server software (unless it's 'by design' , of course).

Contact your Cisco tech rep to find out what is going on - any server/service that becomes unresponsive just because I run another service next to it (on a separate box!) is faulty.

Are you sure there is no IP range overlap between the two servers? Does the OpenVPN server hand out the same IP range?
