bad source address from client

Post by sunilmh » Wed Jun 08, 2011 11:35 am

Hi,

I'm getting following log message on server side for few clients.

Wed Jun 8 15:57:41 2011 jon/xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:4116 MULTI: bad source address from client [xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx], packet dropped

I need to understand under what condition I will get such messages ?

a machine on the client side (or the client machine itself) is sending packets over the VPN link with the wrong source address; this warning means the OpenVPN server is dropping those packets. Other than that the message is harmless. With windows clients this message is sometimes unavoidable, as windows is notorious for using the wrong source address when sending packets.
