Server ip addressing

Post by shrimpsalad » Fri May 13, 2011 1:06 am

We are currently attempting to configure an Open VPN server on an existing network.

By default when the open vpn server runs it takes the first available ip address in the given block. For example, when we attempt to create the vpn on our 192.168.1.x network the server becomes 192.168.1.1. This is a problem because 192.168.1.1 is our gateway.

How do you configure the open VPN server to take an address that isn't .1, or how is this problem normally handled? So far we have been unable to find a solution in the documentation.

hi there,

please read docs on openvpn.net site.

keep in mind that openvpn *CREATES* a virtual interface (when you use routing)
so you must assign a *different* ip range for this interface..
