Configure OpenVPN Failover with 2 VPS Server

Hello all,

The following scenario:
I have 2 VPS with a hoster (same network).

I want to set up these two VPN servers (installed with this script: https://github.com/angristan/openvpn-install) as redundant system / failover.
I have already looked at some tutorials about this. Unfortunately, however, often a license with WebGUI is part.
Is it possible to implement my project in this way? I work from a home network (without AD).

I have also often read that a certain router ID is required. What exactly is meant by this, should I need this at all.
