Established session disconnects after 7 days

Post by jmao » Tue Jul 12, 2022 2:16 pm

Community,

I have an installation of OpenVPN 2.5.6 on Ubuntu with default configuration for most items. Most sessions are short and may last a day or two max. However, a long-lasting session gets disconnected after 7 days weekly and has to be reconnected manually (because of 2FA). Potential issues with ISP have been ruled out.

Per my readings, an established session shall last as long as needed. Maybe there is a default configuration that implicitly set the maximum to 7 days?

Does anyone have a suggestion about this issue? Thanks!

Hi jmao,

Offhand I'd guess it could be --reneg-sec, but you would have to share your configuration and logs of the disconnection to know for sure. See the manual.

You might also want to disable 2FA for a client that you need to remain connected all the time without human intervention. That's what 2FA is all about, you know: forcing human participation in the auth process.
