As a simple routing test .. try removing the --redirect-gateway option ...

Just to see if the Windows->Proxy connection remains.

Good ... but no gateway redirect ...

Thanks to help from Selva:
[Openvpn-users] Fwd: Strange proxy behaviour in windows not linux

This appears to be Windows doing what Windows does best
  • And something Linux does better 8-)
Perhaps you can simulate --redirect-gateway (See --redirect-gateway in The Manual v23x for details.

Also, I suggest you create another client cert/key for your Windows machine and then implement this scenario, that way you can customize your Windows setup without changing your Linux setup.

If that mangled local route was indeed the problem, adding the flag local
to redirect-gateway
should fix it. Then openvpn will not change the route
to remote (the proxy in your case).

I can not use paypal in Serbia :|

EDIT: The download speed has reduced now when I've added local to redirect-gateway

Probably because you use --proto tcp-x ... UDP is considerably faster.
