Hello everyone,
I'm totally new to OpenVPN, and need some general help with setting up a simple (i think) configuration.
The situation is this:
there is a linux server in the office, with samba installed to share files. The server is behind a NAT, but setting up
port forwarding is not a problem. Everyone in the office has access to the server.
Now in the office there is a laptop (running Windows XP), which also has access to the server. Sometimes someone takes this laptop
home with them to work on something, and what I need to do is to be able to access the samba server in the office
while the laptop is away. Preferably, I would like to do it so that while the laptop is in the office, it connects to the office network
and accesses the samba server as it does now. When someone takes it home, they connect it to the network at home, run a script
(.bat file or whatever) that connects to the server in the office, allowing normal Windows file sharing, but still using it's 'home' internet
connection for tasks like browsing the web (it would be wastefull to have the laptop access internet via the office gateway).
There boss also wants to be able to access this server from her home, where she has a PC running Windows 7. What I need to do is to have
her home PC access the office server, while at the same time be able to access her home network (with file and printer sharing with other computers in her house).
Sorry if this sounds complicated, but as I wrote I am completly new to this.
I will apreciate any help You might have.

Re: Need help with OpenVPN setup
Hello,
What you've described is a typical use for an office network with remote client requirements. Your first stop will be the openvpn.net documentation repository. I would suggest starting out with the how-to. If you're not already, you'll want to enable WINS on your samba system to give your remote VPN clients something to browse. Otherwise, qualifying the network path to your smb systems will work as well.
If you have any problems after working through the examples in the how-to, definitely feel free to ask.
Welcome to OpenVPN!
Regards,
Stephen
