iptables service not started because of error (SVC_RUN_EXCEPT)

this error when i try to start openvpn access server. any one know how to fix it.

I'm having trouble with this error as well. iptables seems to be stopping and starting correctly in the shell.

Any tips would be appreciated.

The more info you can provide, the better. Eg:

• Did it work before, but now it stopped.
• Or is this a fresh installation.
• Version of OpenVPN-AS
• Your user account: root, normal user, su

To resolve the error message "iptables service not started because of error (SVC_RUN_EXCEPT)" on a dedicated server centOS5.6 x86_64 running php_v5.2.16. It appears some package files went missing or got corrupted. So a forced re-install/upgrade appears to have solved the problem. # rpm -Uvh --force openvpn-as-1.8.3-CentOS5.x86_64.rpm

Hi Andrew,

I tried to do the steps descriebed in your link. But the hints are for an OPEN VPN AS installation in an OPEN VZ container.

I installed it on a native Ubuntu 8.04 LTS server.

But I saw that OPEN VPN AS needs a working tun device.

I get on the modprobes following output:


root@r16308:~# modprobe ipt_mark
FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.32.2-xxxx-grs-ipv4-32/modules.dep: No such file or directory
root@r16308:~# modprobe ipt_MARK
FATAL: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.32.2-xxxx-grs-ipv4-32/modules.dep: No such file or directory
root@r16308:~# mknod /dev/net/tun c 10 200
mknod: â/dev/net/tunâ: File exists


Any ideas to solve this issue?

Maybe this is an issue with php 5.3+? The user above stated that his worked while using PHP 5.2

I installed this just fine today on Centos 6, but tonight I tried on a Godaddy virtual server with CentOS 5.6 and it fails to start with the same error listed by others. I have updated everything that was out of date, so my guess a dependency was skipped along the way? Any idea's anyone?
