new install - unable to obtain session id port=443

Hi,
I am a new user so please excuse any glaring errors
I have installed OpenVPN on a machine at home. I have forwarded ports 1194 and 443 on my router to the vm appliance hosting openvpn. I can see using dyndns's port checker that my port 443 is open - however when I try and connect from a client at work I get the following error:

unable to obtain session id from xxx port=443 xml-rpc: timeouterror

My work have a proxy server but I am reliably told that 443 is allowed out.
I can get to my 'admin' page from work also.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

which client are you using? the word 'xml-rpc' does not occur in the open source client; if you're using the OpenVPN Access cilent, try downloading the community edition (openvpn-2.2.0-install.exe).

Note that openvpn supports the use of HTTP and SOCKS proxies.

Hi

thanks for your prompt reply!

i downloaded the vm appliance and then the client from the webpage of the appliance. It shows as being
openvpn-connect-1.8.0.msi

thank you for the link. is this just the client? when I downloaded it and opened it, it seemed to be the whole server install - is there a way I can just install the client from there?
I wanted to use the vm appliance as I didn't want to use a whole new windows-based vm to run this.

Ben

the appliance is using the OpenVPN Access Server client , which this forum does not support.

The openvpn-2.2.0-install.exe contains both the client and the server software; there is no separate client-only download for the community edition of OpenVPN.
