What's The Best GUI For Win7?

I have a buddy that want's to use VPN on Win7, I personally just run it from the cmd line in Linux.

As far as GUIs go for Win7 the only decent one I see is the official OpenVPN Desktop Client Download for Windows found here;

http://openvpn.net/index.php?option=com_content&id=357

Would this probably be the best choice for a newbie?

On the Wiki it talks about the new gui, is this going to be the official gui?

http://sourceforge.net/projects/openvpn-gui/

How stable is the latest version? (Alpha, Beta, RC?)

http://sourceforge.net/projects/openvpn ... 0Binaries/

THANKS

The open source (community) edition of OpenVPN 2.1 and 2.2 comes with a GUI included (openvpn-gui-1.03.exe) which works on Windows 7;
There is a new GUI being developed which you listed , but this has not been officially released yet.
As stated elsewhere, the "official" OpenVPN client as found on http://swupdate.openvpn.net is for the commercial version of OpenVPN (Access Server) only.

What the openvpn-2.1.4-install.exe has a GUI?

The OpenVPN Desktop Client Download for Windows that I mentioned before below seems like a nice simple gui...

yes, did you even try it?
The OpenVPN Desktop Client Download for Windows that I mentioned before below seems like a nice simple gui...
as stated before, that is the Access Server GUI , which is not part of the community (open source) edition of OpenVPN ; questions for that product should not be asked on this forum.

I might of installed openvpn-2.1.4-install.exe before, I can't remember, I typically use OpenVPN in Linux and as I said this is for someone else...

What the OpenVPN Desktop Client is the Access Server GUI, what do you mean? That's a basic client GUI for the end-user that want's a client, I think you have that mistaken for another app. The link in the browser even says, 'Client Packages' and the info below it says; 'Enabling users to securely connect using Desktop Application'...

THANKS

I'll say it once more:
The OpenVPN Desktop Client Download for Windows is the client package that belongs to the commercial version of OpenVPN
It is not, repeat not maintained or supported by the open source community.

I'm not just talking about Open Source but any client...

Isn't that OpenVPN's own client? If not, then why is it listed like that on openvpn.net? Because on that page, it certainly gives you the impression that this is OpenVPN's client and if not, well this is very misleading...

hi there,

AFAIK,

all downloads concerning opensource edition are located
under community project --> download option.

I know about all this and I never said, or asked anything about Open Source, all I want to know at this point in time, is what's the deal with the desktop client located here;

http://openvpn.net/index.php?option=com_content&id=357

Second link; OpenVPN Desktop Client Download for Windows

Is that not a client developed by OpenVPN?

If it is, then what's the big deal here, if it's Open Source or not, we are talking about OpenVPN making their own client, so can't we trust this?

I'm a Unix/Linux geek I know all about Open Source, but my question was about the BEST GUI and sometimes even Open Source is not the best and I know that and so should you... ;)

So is that OpenVPN's client, or what is it, by who then?

THANKS

yes, it is made by openvpn technologies... that does NOT mean its the same thing.
[19:06] <krzie> !as
[19:06] <vpnHelper> "as" is "access-server" is (#1) OpenVPN Access Server (OpenVPN-AS) is a set of installation and maintenance tools which allow for simple and rapid deployment of VPN remote access solutions using OpenVPN open source software. The Access Server allows a network administrator to install and configure a VPN server as well as deploy remote clients., or (#2) There are a number of server configurations options supported which are a carefully selected subset of a quite large set of possible OpenVPN configurations. Only this subset of configurations is supported by the Access Server., or (#3) http://openvpn.net/index.php/access-ser ... pn-as.html to download, or (#4) go to http://openvpn.net/index.php/access-ser ... enter.html for support

no further questions about Access Server here please

Well it seems misleading, saying Client Packages at the top of the page, because I know you can use it as just a client...

Well I installed openvpn-2.1.4-install.exe, now I remember it...

By the way is the snapshots of the GUI stable enough for everyday use, are there any benefits to using them over the version 1.0.3 that comes in the installer?

THANKS
