PPPoE through an IPSEC VPN

Hi,

I wondered if anyone knew whether it should be possible to authenticate with a PPPoE server through a IPSEC VPN tunnel?

The problem, I think, is that the PPPoE client (Microsoft Windows XP Dialup networking) broadcasts a PADI packet which I don't think is going through my VPN tunnel.

The setup I have is as follows:

Laptop -> ZyWall P1 -> ZyWall 1050 -> Cisco 2811 Router

The PPPoE server is on the Cisco router.

I realise there are other options to doing the authentication this way but I'd prefer to do it this way for easier integration into the rest of my system.

I'd appreciate any help on this,

Thanks in advance,

Jamie

hi there,

i dont think that zywalls allow broadcasts through ipsec tunnels...

you need some type of layer 2 bridging to pass that through..

cheers,

michael.

ps:why do you need to pass pppoe through a vpn tunnel anyway?

PPPoE over IPSec is possible but completely off-topic for this forum. please ask your question on a PPPoE or IPSec based forum

Thanks for your replies.

maikcat: Thanks for the replies, I thought I may be barking up the wrong tree here!

janjust: Again, thanks for the reply but this is the off topic forum is it not?!

A colleague has suggested using PPTP which I am currently looking into, although not sure if the Cisco 2811 supports this. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jamie

hi jamie,

i will disappoint you but janjust is right,
you are off topic...

this forum is for openvpn and not for ipsec vpn support...

and you dont even mention the word openvpn in your post..

cheers,

michael.

ps:just for curiosity, what are you trying to do anyway?
