TAP install Windows XP-SP3 fails

Hi there,
I'm trying to install OpenVPN Client on a WinXP Machine with SP3, 32 bit.
It always fails when it comes to install the TAP Driver: "An error occurred installing the TAP device driver".
Log Entry:
"tapinstall hwids returned: 0
TAP UPDATE
Updating drivers for tap0901 from C:\Programme\OpenVPN\driver\OemWin2k.inf.
UpdateDriverForPlugAndPlayDevices failed, GetLastError=2
tapinstall.exe failed.
tapinstall update returned: 2
tapinstall cumulative status: 2"
The TAP Device shows up in the in the device manager with an exclamation mark (code 28, driver not installed).
Trying to add the TAP via "add new hardware" manually doesn't work and ends up with "the system can't find any file" or something.
The Registry has the needed RunOnce entry in HKEYLocalMach/Software/Microsoft/Windows.
I tried different Open VPN versions: 2.0.9, 2.1.3, 2.2 beta3. Always the same error.
I tried cleaning the Registry as well with TuneUp Utilities and Regclean.
It's just impossible to install the TAP driver correctly.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!
