Can I Simply Change a Client's CN in a Text Editor?

Hello All
I am brand new to OpenVPN and certificates.
I used EasyRSA to generate the CA, keys and certs for one sever and one client.
I ended up with the server's common name in both the client and server certs.
Can I simply change the "Issuer: CN=" value in the client's cert to the correct name for the client or do I have to regenerate the client cert?

At the moment the client is connecting but I can't ping anything in any subnet yet.
I wanted to get the client's common name right before delving into iroute and a ccd directory.
