I have a bit of an odd problem.
We're running OpenVPN through a PFSense firewall and the VPN itself is fine but non-related traffic appears to be hampered. Connecting to a website when the VPN is up takes a good 30 seconds, doing a tracert, it takes a good 15-20 seconds per hop and customers connecting to the VPN are complaining that Microsoft 365 is unbearably slow.
I suspected that all traffic is being routed through the VPN but it isn't and when I perform Ookla's speed test, it shows the correct ISP and speeds of the local service, so it isn't going through the VPN. When I disconnect the VPN, all goes back to normal.
I tested a different VPN, based on a TP-Link router, using the same OpenVPN client, this doesn't happen.
I'm scratching my head where the problem could be. Any ideas?
Client version is 2.4.7
When connected to VPN, all Internet traffic is slow
