I am very new to the OpenVPN Cloud and I am testing the setup if it can suit my purpose.
My Objective :
- Trying to setup up an AWS Cloud based VPN Server so that my internet traffic is routed from the location of the AWS server
- I have created a new account in AWS and want to rely on the 750 hour EC2 free usage per month under the Free Tier Benefits
- I followed the advice in https://openvpn.net/cloud-docs/launch-connector-on-aws/ and set up a (t2.micro) EC2 instance
- I then downloaded the *.ovpn config file from my connector and used it in my client. The client was getting connected to host, But it couldnt hide my IP (My IP was still the same before connecting to the VPN)
- I checked in the internet and found that I need to create a new network and set it to act as VPN egress. I did it somehow by creating another (t2.micro) EC2 instance and it seems to be working
- When I now connect to my host, I can see that my IP has been changed as per my need
While my objective has been met, I am now having two EC2 instances running in AWS (one for the host and one for the network egress). This means I will run out of Free Tier benefits during the mid of the month and Amazon will start charging me.
Question :
- Is there any way I can meet my objective by setting up only one (t2.micro) EC2 instance?
